The Nanao Ecocenter Center and the Nanao Work Station of the Yilan Branch of the Forestry and Conservation Administration are located in the same building. In 1997, the Nan'ao Work Station moved here and planned the original camphor tree afforestation land into a native plant specimen garden. The Nan'ao Ecological Education Center was set up on the side of the main office building to play the role of interpreting and educating on themes such as forest resource utilization and ecological conservation in Taiwan.

In addition to the indoor exhibitions, the native tree park outside the museum is also worth a visit. The plants in the native tree park are planned according to the plant classification system. There are a total of 120 species in 47 families, mainly woody plants, supplemented by vines and herbs. It is a high-quality place for extracurricular teaching in Yilan County's middle and elementary schools, and even schools in the northern region.

The museum is close to three important protected areas, including the "Wushibi Coast Nature Reserve", "Nan'ao Broadleaf Forest Nature Reserve" and "Guanyin Coast Wildlife Important Habitat Environment". In the interpretation and education promotion work, it also pays attention to the current situation and crises faced by the surrounding protected areas. In addition to serving as an educational platform for the interpretation of local nature and culture in South Australia, the museum also allows visitors to learn about different topics such as protected areas, biodiversity, forest ecosystem management, ecotourism, community forestry, and ecotourism, effectively bringing into play the best functions and services of the ecological education museum.
