Luodong Forestry Culture Park
The Secret Garden of the City: Luodong Forestry Culture Park
The Park used to be the vital lumber transfer hub of Taipingshan Forest Station. Wufen Train Rail (the half-gauge train rail) and Jhulin Station were constructed beside the log pond for ease of transportation. Forestry-related communities emerged and developed nearby as a result. The Park was officially registered as a cultural landscape according to the Cultural Heritage Preservation Act in 2012.
Trail of Tallow Trees with Fragrance of Woodchips
A trail amid the tallow trees with the fragrance of woodchips welcomes the tourists at the northern entrance of the Park. Whether it is rainy or sunny, a walk on the trail always feels refreshing. Facilities in the Park include the Ecological Pool (Log Pond), Aquatic Plant Pool, Aquatic Plant Exhibition, Steam Locomotive Exhibition, Forest Railway, and Pond Trail. Combined with functions of leisure, education, and culture, it is a fine site for ecological observation.

Featured Landscape
Bunker
There are two bunkers in the Park, the purpose of which were to safeguard the south and north sides of the forest station, as well as protect the forest railway and the logs.

Forestry Facilities
Wood storage pond
In the early stages of the development of Taipingshan Forest Farm, the forest farm used pipe flow to transport timber, using the Lanyang River. Along the way, dikes and sluices were built to adjust the water volume, directing the wood from the field through a 30-kilometer water flow to the Yilan Yuanshan timber storage pond. The pool area is approximately 30,000 pings. There are two reasons why wood storage pools are beneficial for wood storage: First, in terms of commercial value - long-term exposure to the sun will cause the surface of the wood to crack, and an incomplete surface will affect the selling price. Second, in terms of the characteristics of the trees, red cypress and cypress are rich in oil, which can protect the trunks and prevent water from entering and causing rot. In addition, red cypress and cypress contain a certain resin that must be diluted by soaking in water. After dilution, the shelf life of the wood can be longer.

Forestry Facilities
Unloading platform
After the timber is transported here by train, it is rolled "horizontally" into the timber storage pool and soaked in water using this slide-like unloading platform. However, not all trees can be soaked in water, and different treatment methods must be used depending on the tree species. In fact, only noble tree species such as coniferous trees, such as red cypress, oriental cypress, and nanmu, are stored in water, while other tree species can only be stored on land. Even when entering the pool, they must be separated and classified using wooden stakes, rather than just being placed into the pool at random.

Forestry Facilities
Zhulin Station
Entering the station built entirely of cypress wood, take a closer look at the antique fare list on the wall. At that time, the price per mile was calculated at "four cents". In addition, the wooden door at the platform ticket gate of Zhulin Station has a special purpose. It is used to determine the height of those who purchase full or half-price tickets. I imagine that the children who passed through this door back then would set this as their goal, hoping to grow taller than it quickly. There is an open-air cafe outside Zhulin Station, which is also the most popular place in the entire park. Here adults and children can take a leisurely rest and drink coffee!

Park Facilities
Lintieguan (Inspection Garage)
Lintieguan was formerly the inspection garage. It was used as an inspection space for the maintenance of Luodong Forestry Railway locomotives and passenger cars. It is also one of the six designated historical buildings in the park. It is an important forestry cultural asset and is now used as an exhibition hall.
The inspection garage was originally a one-story wooden building during the Japanese occupation. It was rebuilt after being destroyed by Typhoon Pomera in 1961. The current condition is as it was after the addition in 1970. It still retains the two-slope roof supported by the original cypress trusses, with wooden grilles on the outside of the windows. The interior space is high and open, and is compatible with architectural styles of different periods.
The exhibition in the museum is centered on the permanent exhibition "Memory of Steaming Love - Taipingshan Forest Railway", and there are also No. 15 steam locomotive and a 7-ton diesel locomotive parked as on-site displays. Through the display of physical locomotives, the presentation of the forest railway story and the scene design, the historical context of Luodong forest railway, the dispatching operation of forest farm stations and the evolution of material transportation technology are introduced. In the existing spatial context, the historical path of forestry is reproduced, and the audience looks back on the forest railway train in those years, and unfolds the flowing scenery and humanistic memories on the Lanyang Plain.

Park Facilities
Lumber Store
In order to promote the domestic materials policy and activate the building space in the Luodong Forestry Culture Park, the Yilan Branch rented out two renovated buildings to the local "Jingdian Qite Co., Ltd." to create "Material Store Halls 1 and 2" through public bidding. The store will focus on promoting and selling products with domestic material-related certification marks (CAS, TAP and QR code). It is Taiwan's first domestic material store with a certified resume. All domestically produced wood products in the museum have been verified for their legality, allowing consumers to purchase with peace of mind. The museum also displays introductions to the verification history, and provides hand-made experiences, light meal services, and green conservation label products. Daily business hours: 09:00-17:00, closed on Wednesdays.

Restaurant/Accommodation/Meeting Room
Forest Art Museum
The Forest Art Museum was originally a dormitory for log storage and measurement personnel in the early days. The building type is a simple Japanese truss structure. In order to revitalize the reuse value of the art and cultural space, the Yilan Branch used the old dormitory cypress wood as the main structure in 2015 to complete the renovation of two historic buildings, fully presenting the architectural features of the dormitories during the Japanese colonial period. For the first time, the private enterprise and the private enterprise management strength of I-Mei Jisheng Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of Taiwan's well-known old brand "I-Mei Food", were combined to reuse the old building of the Forest Art Museum as a platform for forestry display and promotion, exhibition and sale of wooden cultural and creative products, and marketing and promotion of the local wood industry. Daily business hours are 08:00-17:00. Contact number: 03- 9551651
