Aogu Wetland Forest Park used to be the major base of Taiwan Sugar Corporation (Taisugar) for farming, fishing, husbandry and sugar cane cultivation after land reclamation. However, owing to the severe land subsidence caused by seawater invading the ground water zone, the farm fell into disuse. With lower terrain surrounded by sea levees, the fish farms and once farmlands turned into natural reservoirs after shower rains. In time, these ponds and wetlands have become a habitat for ever-increasing numbers of migrant birds and resident birds, forming the Aogu Wetland Forest Park we see today. The saplings in the enormous reforestation area will turn into woods in ten or twenty years, making Aogu Wetland an international-level environment with diversified forest forms rich in wetland ecological resources.
Themed with “Wetlands Preservation” and “Environmental Education”, Aogu Wetland Forest Park is developed as a base for eco-tourism, education, and research alike.

Route 1
Take National Highway No. 1 and transfer via the Chiayi System Interchange at the 272K mark to Expressway Dongshih-Chiayi (Provincial Highway No. 82), and head westbound to “Dongshih”: <br>(1) Exit to surface road, and turn right to Provincial Highway No. 17 as soon as you pass the Dongshih Bridge. At around the 113.5-114k mark of the Provincial Highway No. 17, turn left, pass through the tunnel beneath Provincial Highway No. 61, and head straight westbound. <br>(2) Exit to surface road, and turn right onto County Road No. 157. Head straight to Chiayi Country Road No. 7, and pass along Harbor Bridge, Heavenly Mother Bridge, Gangkou Temple, and the tunnel beneath the Provincial Highway No. 61. <br>(3) Exit at Puzi Interchange (at the 10K mark of Provincial Highway No. 82), and turn right onto Wenhua S. Rd (Provincial Highway No. 19). Then turn left to Sec. 2, Siwei Road, and turn left at Haitong Road (County Road No. 168). Head straight ahead, turn right onto Chiayi Country Road No. 7, and pass Harbor Bridge, Heavenly Mother Bridge, Gangkou Temple, and the tunnel beneath Provincial Highway No. 61.<br>You will reach the Park’s Information Center, i.e. Dongshi Natural Ecological Exhibition Center.
West Coastal Expressway(southbound)
For those travelling southbound on the West Coastal Expressway (Provincial Highway No. 61) toward the direction of Chiayi, exit at Shuijing Interchange at the 253K mark (Provincial Highway No. 17). Pass along Yunjia Bridge, turn right at the intersection of the Park’s reception tunnel (approximately at the 114k mark of Provincial Highway No. 17). Head straight westbound until you reach Dongshi Natural Ecological Exhibition Center. <br>For those travelling northbound on the West Coastal Expressway (Provincial Highway No. 61) in the direction of Yunlin, and exit at Dongshih Interchange at the 262K mark (Provincial Highway No. 17). Turn left at between the 113.5-114k marks of Provincial Highway No. 17, pass through a tunnel beneath the Provincial Highway No. 61, and head straight westbound until you reach Dongshi Natural Ecological Exhibition Center, the Information Center of the Park.
Route 2
Take National Highway 1 at 272K Chiayi System and connect to the east-west expressway Dongshi-Chiayi Line (Taiwan Highway 82), head west to "Dongshi", connect to the flat road and turn right to County Road 157, go straight to Jia 7 Township Road, pass the Port Bridge, the Holy Mother Bridge, the Port Palace and the Provincial Highway 61 culvert, and you will reach the park service center "Aogu Wetland Ecological Exhibition Hall".
Route 3
At 272K on National Highway 1, the Chiayi system connects to the east-west expressway Dongshi-Chiayi Line (Taiwan Highway 82), heading west toward "Dongshi", exit at Puzi Interchange (Taiwan Highway 82 10K), turn right onto Wenhua South Road (Taiwan Highway 19), then turn left onto Siwei Road Section 2, turn left onto Haitong Road (County Highway 168), go straight to Jia 7 Township Road, turn right, and pass the Port Bridge, the Holy Mother Bridge, the Port Palace, and the Provincial Highway 61 culvert to reach the park service center "Aogu Wetland Ecological Exhibition Hall".
Route 4
National Highway 3 connects to the east-west expressway Dongshi-Chiayi Line (Taiwan Highway 82) from the 300K water system, heading west toward "Dongshi", and then passing the 272K Chiayi system of National Highway 1. You can also reach the park service center "Aogu Wetland Ecological Exhibition Hall" by referring to the above route.
West Coastal Expressway(northbound)
Go to Yunlin and get off at Dongshi Interchange at 262K (Provincial Highway 17). At 113.5-114k on Provincial Highway 17, turn left and go straight west through the Provincial Highway 61 culvert to reach the park service center, the Aogu Wetland Ecological Exhibition Hall.
THSR
Take the high speed rail to THSR Chiayi Station, and transfer to “Chiayi-Puzih” line of Chiayi Bus at the Bus Platform No. 1 at Exit 2 of the Lobby on the 1st floor. Then, get off at “Puzih” Stop, take bus line “Puzih- Haipudi” to “Aogu Farm”, and you will arrive at the Information Center of the park, “Dongshi Natural Ecological Exhibition Center”. By train
Take the train to Chiayi Station, and transfer to the bus line“Chiayi-Puzih” of Chiayi Bus at the Transit Center located at the station’s rear exit. Get off at “Puzih” Stop and transfer to bus line “Puzih-Haipudi”. Get off at “Aogu Farm” stop and you will arrive at the Information Center of the Park, Dongshi Natural Ecological Exhibition Center.

The piece is inspired by the prominent “Osprey” in Aogu Wetland, as the wings spread like the soaring migrant bird, a symbol of Aogu Wetlands as a paradise for migrant birds in Taiwan.

The Ecological Sundial is brought into service at the end of 2013. The shapes of a beak and an abstract body of a bird are intertwined, while the beak points toward the Aogu Wetlands, highlighting the Aogu Wetland's theme of natural ecology and demonstrating the thematic imagery of the park's entrance.

Aogu Wetland Ecological Exhibition Hall
Formerly the Aogu Branch School of Xiaji Elementary School in Dongshi Township, the property rights were transferred to the Dongshi Township Office in March 2008. After the school building was renovated, the "Dongshi Natural Ecology Exhibition Hall" was opened and unveiled at the end of the same year. In addition to winter migratory bird watching activities, it also provides tourist-related services. In 2010, the Chiayi Branch Office allocated the campus building to the Dongshi Township Office for overall planning as an ecological exhibition hall, with the main exhibition axis presenting the life culture of the Dongshi fishing village and the ecological landscape culture of the Aogu Wetland. In addition to the service center on the first floor that provides tourist consultation, the rotating exhibition area is a space that can be flexibly decorated and furnished. The audio-visual space can provide multimedia ecological education, Dongshi area tourism and recreation information, local cultural and historical work exhibition venues or seminar information exchange space. The digital exhibition area on the second floor is mainly interactive fixed exhibitions. In 2023, in order to improve the recognition of the exhibition hall, it was renamed the "Aogu Wetland Ecological Exhibition Hall."

Sea Viewing Building
Taiwan Sugar Corporation built an embankment to reclaim land from the sea and also established fish farms at Aogu tidal land. A Fisheries Group was founded in 1973, and the tallest building was erected at the heart of the reclaimed land, commonly known as the Sea Viewing Building today. This is also the tallest bird-watching building in Taiwan.

South Levee Artificial Wetland
The concepts of detention pond and artificial wetland are employed in the Park and developed into water holding systems of various forms to tackle the impact of climate and environmental changes. Wooden paths and bird-watching platforms are constructed in the wetlands for visitors to get close to wetlands and recognize the values of wetlands.

Bicycle Lane
The length of the bicycle lane is 14.3 km in total. Visitors can appreciate the brilliant landscapes of Aogu Wetland along the way. It is the perfect route in the Park for birdwatching, especially during wintertime.

The Taisugar Farm Office, located next to the wooden boardwalk in the park's artificial wetland, is the office base for Taisugar Farm employees.
