Guangfu Township, Hualien County
Danongdafu Forest Park
Located in Guangfu Township of Hualien County, “Danongdafu Flatland Forest Park” is situated in the East Rift Valley with the Central Range and the Coastal Range on either side. Traveling down south along the Valley about half way through, one will see a vast, endless forest after passing the chimney of Hualien Sugar Factory. Taiwan was a beautiful island with forests everywhere. Yet, the centuries-long development has forced the primitive forests to retreat from the plains. Since the 21st century began, the Forestry and Nature Conservation Agency has been actively engaged in reforestation in the plain area. After a decade of cultivation, the citizens of Hualien now enjoy the very first flatland forest, the Danongdafu Flatland Forest Park.
Situated in between the Central Range and the Coastal Range, the Park has an area of 1,250 ha, equivalent to 48 Daan Parks, which makes it truly a super carbon-adsorbing oxygen generator. There are over a million trees of nearly 20 different kinds commonly seen at low altitude. They are pretty, useful and close to our lives.

Park Facilities
Information Center
The service center is located at the intersection of the park and is rich in information. It is the best starting point for understanding and exploring the flatland forest. The exterior is elegantly integrated into the valley landscape. It adopts energy-saving green building design, uses domestic materials, steel structures and other materials, and has rich forest landscapes with educational, conservation and recreational tourism significance. It uses architectural space configuration to shape the image of a garden and create landscape areas with different attributes. It combines "rainwater utilization", "sewage and drainage purification utilization" and "drainage system" to process water resources in the way of "water conservation, drainage and reuse", so that the building not only has the functions of tourist services and administrative offices, but also meets the environmental protection and energy-saving indicators of "Silver Green Building".

Park Facilities
Main Avenue
The main ring road is the main road for touring the entire Danong Dafu Plain Forest Park. It can be divided into the North Ring Road and the South Ring Road. The two roads connect at the service center. To the north, you can reach Mafo Community and Hualien Sugar Factory; to the south, you can reach Dafu Community and Fuxing Community. The width of the main ring road can reach 6 meters, and it is designed for both cars and bicycles. Along the way, you can enjoy the forest landscape created by different types of afforestation tree species. For example, the Elaeocarpus chinensis on both sides of the North Ring Road is dotted with red leaves, and the Taiwan Koelreuteria paniculata on the South Ring Road will first bloom with yellow flowers in late summer and early autumn, and then bear pink fruits. It is extremely beautiful and has become a favorite wedding photography location for wedding dress industry professionals in recent years.
